Normandy Retreat Resources and Materials

Below is a list of recommendations and resources for materials needed for our upcoming Normandy Artist Retreat weekend in May. It is also a good list for anyone interested in Plein Air Painting.

I will have field easels available for the painting weekend, I will provide Odorless Mineral Spritis, rags, and a waste can for used ODM.  The field easels will be similar to the Coulter Easel System.

Of course you are welcome to invest in your own for the trip. Field easels are also a great option for home studios if you don't have a dedicated painting space. Easy to set up and disassemble, and tuck away neatly for another day. Keywords for finding a field easel are "Field easel", "Pochade Box", "Art Box", "French Easel"

You are responsible for your paints, brushes, Canvas Panels(11x14), wet panel carrier. Any plein air guides and tools are optional. Anything you take, you are responsible for carrying.

Below are links and suggestions for Plein Air Painting materials.

Art Boxes or Pochade Boxes can be so expensive. Maybe look into a DIY version? I've recently ordered this Art Box on Amazon.de for around 27euro. With a few modifications it will make a great Pochade Box. (Come see me if your interested in how I will mod my new pochade box.) It comes with a wooden Palette, and is solid construction. Otherwise check out Pochade Boxes made by Guerrilla Painter or Sienna Plein Air

Here you will find items such as a wet panel carrier, tripod, tripod t-nut, tripod mounting plate (for your diy pochade box or art box), clamps, painting cups, Steel Field Easel, **stainless steel brush washer, and studio lights.

The wet panel carrier I purchased for myself is the Guerrilla Handy Porter. Cheap easy and light weight. They come in packs of 3 boxes, each box capable of carrying up to 4 panels.  I ask that everyone paints with 11x14 panels for the weekend, so be sure to order a wet panel carrier to accommodate that size canvas panel.  (If you missed the meeting, come see me for canvas panel examples.) We will have 4 painting sessions 3-5hrs each. It is up to you to decide how many panels you are capable and willing to produce in that time. For myself I estimate 4-8panels.

If you haven't already purchased a brushwasher, I have 10oz. stainless steel brushwashers for sale. $18.
